Flipkart Hiring: 700 Job Openings In Data Science & Other Tech Areas
There is good news from Flipkart for data science and analytics professionals. After two years of inconsistency in recruiting, the online retail giant has decided to hire professionals from these tech fields.
The announcement came through a paper, and they plan to increase the headcount in data science and analytics department, besides other specializations. Flipkart has announced around 700 vacancies mostly across technology related functions including data science.
As per reports, the company in this year's campus recruitment session offered around 20 jobs to students from the illustrious Indian School of Business (ISB). This is a big move by Flipkart since 2015. If you recall, they did cost cutting in 2015 that reduced their workforce from 15,000 to mere 8,000 employees.
This aggressive hiring can be attributed to the company's "AI in India" program which they launched in 2017. The focus of this program is to build scalable AI powered solutions for the country. It was announced to be headed by their chief data scientist Mr. Mayur Datar. AI for India, aims to identity the mindset of the Indian consumer and their buying behavior. Thus there is a need for a larger implementation of AI and ML which has led to this demand for data scientists and engineers.
There are about 50+ positions that need to be filled for the data scientist role and they require skills in machine learning, artificial intelligence, deep learning etc. Another reason behind this surge in recruitment is the fact Flipkart received 4 billion dollars in funding last year. They have listed openings for the role of data scientist on LinkedIn as well.
