Ideaspring Capital invests in AR startup Whodat
Early-stage venture fund Ideaspring Capital has invested $600,000 in Bengaluru-based augmented reality (AR) startup Whodat. Founded in 2013 by Sriram Ganesh and Kaushik Das, Whodat's augmented reality platform is open to developers to create an immersive AR experience that automatically detects users' environments without the need of using physical markers to overlay 3D content.
This is Ideaspring's third investment in two months . It previously invested in enterprise technology company Karomi and enterprise networking startup Lavelle Networks.
"Whodat's AR platform will make it very easy for developers with minimal knowledge of computer vision and deep learning to develop AR experiences. We plan to invest heavily in R&D and product development over the next 18 months to take our vision one step closer to reality," said Ganesh, who is an alumnus of Stanford University Graduate School of Business. Naganand Doraswamy, managing partner at Ideaspring Capital, said this is a very exciting space. "Location-based augmented reality game Pokemon Go received huge traction. Users could play the game smoothly with smartphones. It's all about democratising technology," he said.
